102-year-old Edie Simms was arrested, handcuffed, and placed in the back of a police cruiser at her request, just so she could cross another item off of her bucket list. St. Louis Police Sgt. John McLaughlin told KPLR that they were happy to help, “These types of events and Ms. Simms help us do that and we`re more than happy to do these type of things. We love it and we get more out of it than the seniors do.”
The police were happy to help Simms with this little goal, especially since she has donated so much of her time to the community she lives in. Last year, Simms sewed and stitched around 413 handmade items for the residents of the Five Star Senior Center. She recently made a trip to American Baptist University to talk about “100 years of remembering.”
When she finally arrived at the senior center after her short ride in the cruiser, it was back to business with a big game of bingo. All the folks who were present received another handmade item from Edie.
Here’s a video of her daring arrest!
When asked if she enjoyed her ride that morning, Edie answered, “Oh yes, handcuffs and all.”
