It was just a normal day on Monday October 12th when GE Engineer Dave Stevens went for a run was ambushed by a mentally ill man with a machete. His wife Patti Stevens said he would go for 10 mile run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday mornings but she knew something was wrong when he didn’t return home, so she began the search, later that night she found his Toyota 4 Runner in the parking lot, she called 911 for help, but the operator told her to go home because it was unsafe. Patti then learned of a stabbing death earlier that morning. But it would be a day later when she found out it was her husband who was the victim of a brutal crime. He was identified through fingerprints.
Details have since been released that the alleged killer — Thomas Linze Johnson, 21 , once Texas A&M football star, who began to display signs of mental illness, diagnosed schizophrenic. After the attack Johnson called 911 and told police he “just committed capital murder.”
Widow Patti Stevens prefers to remember her husband of 25 years as ‘the love of her life’
“People need to know that this was a wonderful person going out and doing what he loved to do.”
