The Maine Redneck Olympics have been told they have to change their name.
The Huffington Post is reporting that the International Olympic Committee said that the games featuring activities like bobbing for pigs feet and toilet seat horseshoes cannot use “Olympics” in their title.
Now the event is being called the Maine Redneck “Blank” Games. Organizer Harold Brooks says they regret having to change the name, but “everyone knows what the blank stands for.”
Adding that the whole idea behind the event is to let hard working people blow off some steam.
Brooks also wants everyone to forget the Redneck stereotype of living in a trailer or being a drunk. “A redneck is someone who works hard. They say their neck is red because they work outside. A redneck can make fun of himself and have a good time,” said Brooks
Though Brooks changed the name, he doesn’t feel that it is right. Saying, “The word was around before they (the International Olympic Committee) were around. If they want to complain, then they should have the Greeks call and tell me to stop using it.”
