Bogus ‘Bingo’ Could Result In Jail Time

We’ve always heard that you shouldn’t yell “Fire!” in a crowded theater, but would you really want to risk the ire of hard-core bingo-playing grannies by yelling “Bingo!” when you really don’t have a bingo?

18-year-old Austin Whaley did just that. The man was working security in a bingo hall in northern Kentucky when he disrupted a game by falsely exclaiming “Bingo!” Most of the crowd began to groan when they thought they’d lost, but then transformed into an angry crowd of agitated grannies when they discovered there was no bingo.

Whaley was cited for second-degree disorderly conduct, which could have resulted in 90 days in jail and a $250 fine, but the judge decided that since he had no previous record, the punishment should fit the crime. The young man cannot say the word “Bingo” for 6 months. So long as he stays out of trouble, the charge will be dropped.
