Is that 16 birds in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

This is what customs officials at the Miami International Airport must have said to Alberto Diaz Gonzales, a 76-year-old who tried to smuggle 16 Cuban bullfinches in his pants.

According to a press release from the Federal Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Gonzalez hid the birds in pockets as well as plastic containers stuffed down his pants.

After the birds were discovered Gonzalez confessed to wanting to sell them in the U.S.

He plead guilty to violating the federal anti-smuggling statue. He faces a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
