It sounds like a bit in a National Lampoon movie, but 40-year-old Brian Reynolds was issued a traffic citation after being run over by his own pickup truck earlier this week.

Boston.com is reporting that, Reynolds was discovered by police lying injured and face-down in the road on Monday, after they heard reports of a car accident.

According to officials the brakes failed on the 1987 Chevrolet pickup that Reynolds was driving. He tried putting his leg out the door in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but ended up losing control of the car and ran it off the road, up onto an embankment.

In the process Reynolds fell out of the truck and it drove over his leg before hitting a fire hydrant.

Officers issued him a $35 citation for operating defective equipment.
