There is a serious male thong shortage going on in Ireland, thanks to an attempt, by the people of Cork Ireland, to break the Guinness World Record for “Most Bodies Painted.”
The Irish Examiner is reporting, more than 300 people from all over Ireland gathered in Cork over the weekend to try and break the record. Participants were asked to wear only a thong so each person’s entire could be painted. The problem? Most local businesses were not well-stocked with the male version of the underwear.
Keira O’Connell, who coordinates bi-monthly body painting events in Cork, decided it was time they try and break the world record.
“I love to have different projects on the go, and I love to challenge myself,” she said. “I thought this would be a good way to promote [body painting] in the city and nationally.” The 27-year-old added that, “Irish people love to break records.”
When stores in the city of 119,000 people began selling out, “panic buying” of thongs ensued.
I started getting calls from all over the country [from men] asking me where they can buy thongs!” she wrote in an email to the Huffington Post. O’Connell noted that the manager of a local lingerie store even commented on the high numbers of men purchasing ladies large-size thongs.
Other than the panty problem, the event was a smash success. 316 participants filled Cork’s Camden Palace Hotel, which was more than enough to shatter the previous record of 246 people.
More than 100 artists and 40 crew members made sure each person was painted, counted, and photographed.
O’Connell has said he sent the official documentation and proof to Guinness, and it should take 6-8 weeks to hear if they have broken the record. Though if they don’t O’Connell is happy to try again, “We had so much fun on the day, and loads of people are asking us [if] are we going to do it again!” she said.
If they do have to do it again, maybe they should let the male thong supplies know so they can brace for demand.
