Some strange things have been found on the streets of Los Angeles, but nothing quite like this.

According to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, an unidentified person found what appeared to be a pair of lungs on a sidewalk in the city’s south side Sunday evening.

Sergeant Pauline Panis said the organs were retrieved and sent to the coroner’s office for further testing.  It was unknown whether they were from a human or animal.

Panis also said this was the first time she knew of that a pair of lungs had been recovered from the streets of Los Angeles, adding, “it’s getting weirder.”

Perhaps the Zombie Apocalypse is upon us, after all.
