The popular 1980s musical puppet series by Jim Henson, Fraggle Rock is coming to the silver screen.
Rango co-writer Jim Byrkit and Alex Manugian have been hired to write the script.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Fraggle Rock is being adapted to a movie. The show, which initially ran in Canada, is about a group of cave-dwelling creature called Fraggles. They share their world with a race of small industrious creatures named Doozers and Gorgs, furry giants.
The film has been in the works at other companies, but became the property of New Regency in 2011. The Jim Henson Co. and the Montecito Picture Co. are producing.
In addition to working on Rango, Byrkit has worked on The Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Manuguian is a former Cartoon Network executive who did some voice work on Rango.
