Man Gets DUI With Zebra And Parrot In Passenger Seat
An Iowa man was arrested outside of a bar last week for a DUI with a Macaw Parrot and a pet Zebra in the passenger seat of a truck.
Sounds like the start of a joke.
Officers charged Jerald Reiter, 55, with a DUI. Police say they stopped him in the parking lot of a local bar as he was trying to exit the parking lot.
His sobriety tests showed and alcohol level of .14, which is over the legal limit of .08.
Reiter told KRCG that he and his girlfriend, Vickey Teters, treat the animals like their children, and often take them for a ride in the car. The couple brought the animals to the bar because it often lets people bring their animals inside.
Reiter says the owner told him they were serving food that night and he couldn’t bring a zebra inside the bar. Bar owners tell KCRG.com that no animals are ever allowed inside the establishment.
As he brought the animals back to the car several witnesses snapped pictures, and Reiter believes one of them called police.
Reiter disputes the charges and says he realized he was too drunk to drive and was about to let a passenger in the truck to take the wheel when he was arrested.
