Today’s Throwback Video of the Day is “Hello” from [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lionel Richie[/lastfm]!

Hey, Lionel… is it us you’re looking for?

In 1983, Lionel Richie released his second solo album, Can’t Slow Down.  It was a huge commercial success for the former [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Commodores[/lastfm] frontman, spending three weeks atop the Billboard 200 and winning a Grammy for Album of the Year.

The album’s third single was the ballad “Hello,” and it has since become one of Richie’s signature songs.  “Hello” landed at No. 1 on the Hot 100, R&B and Adult Contemporary charts.

The music video was spearheaded by famed director Bob Giraldi, and it featured the story of Richie’s love for a blind art student, who reciprocated those feelings by sculpting a likeness of his head.
