Today’s Throwback Video of the Day is [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]INXS[/lastfm]‘ “Need You Tonight/Mediate.”

Yep, two for the price of one.

In 1987, Aussie rockers INXS scored their only No. 1 hit in the U.S. with “Need You Tonight,” the first single from the album Kick.

Paired with “Mediate,” the music video was directed by Richard Lowenstein and combined live action with animation.  The latter part featured the band flipping cue cards with song lyrics on them, an homage to [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bob Dylan[/lastfm]‘s “Subterranean Homesick Blues.”

The video for “Need You Tonight/Mediate” won big at the ’88 MTV VMAs, including for Video of the Year.  MTV also placed it at No. 21 on its list of the 100 Greatest Videos of All Time.
