HBO has cancelled “Luck” after a third horse has died during production.

The show stars Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte, and Dennis Farina. It airs Sunday nights on HBO.

TMZ is reporting that after a third horse died during production HBO has decided to nix the show about horse racing.

HBO released a statement saying, “While we maintained the highest safety standards possible, accidents unfortunately happen and it is impossible to guarantee they won’t in the future.”

The statement goes on, “We maintained the highest safety standards throughout production, higher in fact than any protocols existing in horse racing anywhere with many fewer incidents than occur in racing or than befall horses normally in barns at night or pastures.”

The crew was upset after being told that HBO was stopping production, which was supposed to last another 8 months, and they would receive not severance pay.
