Courtney Love Angry With The Muppets For Use Of Nirvana Song
[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Courtney Love[/lastfm] is angry with Disney and The Muppets for the use of her late husband, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kurt Cobain[/lastfm], band [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nirvana[/lastfm]’s song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in their 2011 movie.
Apparently Love didn’t sign-off on it, and she believes that they have “raped” the memory of Cobain by bastardizing the song.
Love claims to have absolute power to approve the use of any music written by Kurt Cobain for commercial purposes, and that she never said that Disney could use “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in the film.
However, TMZ is reporting that Love sold half her rights to the music to Primary Wave Music, and they have exclusive right to distribute Nirvana’s entire catalog.
Primary Wave approved the use of the song in the Muppet’s movie, and they got permission for the two living members of Nirvana, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dave Grohl[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Krist Novoselic[/lastfm]. As TMZ pointed out, Grohl even appeared in the movie.
Seems as if Love doesn’t really have a legal leg to stand on.
