Happy Birthday, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Vince Neil[/lastfm]!!

And to celebrate, Jack FM is making [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Motley Crue[/lastfm]’s “Kickstart My Heart” our Song of the Day!!

Now, where are the strippers, booze and blow?!

They are perhaps the world’s most notorious rock band.

With a blend of glam rock and heavy metal all their own, Motley Crue rose to fame in the mid ’80s on the success of such albums as Shout at the Devil, Theatre of Pain and Girls, Girls, Girls.  Each sold over four million copies and charted in the Top 20 on the Billboard 200.  Songs like “Looks That Kill,” “Too Young to Fall in Love,” “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” and “Home Sweet Home” were hits at rock radio, while their music videos proved to be hugely popular with MTV viewers.

In 1989, the L.A.-based band reached their commercial peak with the release of their fifth album, Dr. Feelgood.  Regarded by critics and fans as their best album, Dr. Feelgood moved more than six million copies in the U.S. and went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200.  The Grammy-nominated title track was a hit on both the rock and pop charts, peaking at No. 6 on Billboard‘s Hot 100.  The album’s second single, “Kickstart My Heart,” was written by bassist [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nikki Sixx[/lastfm] about his infamous 1987 heroin overdose in which he died and came back to life.  “Kickstart My Heart” was a Top 20 smash on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and is Jack’s Song of the Day.

Following several years of poor album sales, record label struggles and lineup changes (both singer Vince Neil and drummer [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tommy Lee[/lastfm] had left at various points), Motley Crue came roaring back with 2008’s Saints of Los Angeles.  The album, the first to feature the band’s original lineup in 11 years, debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and went Top 10 in Sweden, Canada and Finland.  The single “Saints of Los Angeles” was a Top 5 rock hit, and it also brought the Crue their third Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance.

Today, Motley Crue are still going strong.  Their tenth studio album is reportedly in the works, and on February 19th they will wrap a two-week stint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Here’s Motley Crue performing “Shout at the Devil.”  We so want to be just like Nikki Sixx when we grow up!
