Tomorrow is singer [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Gavin DeGraw[/lastfm]‘s birthday!!

And to mark the occasion, Jack FM is making his latest hit, “Not Over You,” our Song of the Day!!

Hey, Gavin… could we borrow one of your hats?  We have this bald spot we’re trying to hide.

Things have definitely been sweet for Gavin DeGraw.

Born and raised in the Catskills of New York, Gavin DeGraw first began singing and playing the piano at the age of eight.  As a teen, he was in several cover bands with his older brother, Joey, and it was him who encouraged Gavin to start writing his own songs.

After a short stint at Boston’s Berklee School of Music, the aspiring singer-songwriter moved to Manhattan in the late ’90s.  Once there, Gavin quickly developed a loyal following with his energetic live performances, and in 2002, he was signed to Clive Davis‘ J Records.

In July 2003, Gavin DeGraw released his debut album, Chariot.  Although sales were initially slow, the album picked up momentum when the single “I Don’t Want to Be” was chosen to be the theme song for the TV show One Tree Hill.  “I Don’t Want to Be” raced up the charts, landing at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and making Gavin a household name.

2008 saw the release of his second album, Gavin DeGraw.  It debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the Adult Top 40 hits “In Love with a Girl” and “Cheated on Me.”  The album Free followed in ’09.

For his fourth album, Gavin DeGraw decided to shake things up musically.  Working for the first time with a handful of producers and songwriters, Sweeter was released in September 2011, and the result was a funkier, sexier-sounding album.  With its blend of pop, rock and soul, Sweeter debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, becoming Gavin’s second Top 10 album.  The first single, the platinum-selling “Not Over You,” has already gone to No. 1 on the Adult Top 40 chart and is currently sitting in the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Gavin DeGraw just kicked off a European tour, and in March, he will be back on the road in the U.S.
