Jack FM would like to wish [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kid Rock[/lastfm] a very happy birthday today!!
Quick word to the wise: if you ever attend a Kid Rock party, make sure you’re up-to-date on all your shots.
Born Robert James Ritchie in 1971, Kid Rock spent the early years of his career in relative obscurity, releasing several albums to little fanfare.
But all that changed in 1998 when the Michigan native released Devil Without a Cause. The album put Kid Rock on the music map, selling over 11 million copies and peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Success of Devil Without a Cause was fueled by the Top 10 rock singles “Bawitdaba,” “Only God Knows Why” and “Cowboy,” which is Jack’s Song of the Day.
The compilation album The History of Rock followed in 2000, with Cocky coming a year later. The latter showcased Kid’s transition to a more southern rock/country sound, and it gave him his first crossover hit, “Picture.” A duet with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Sheryl Crow[/lastfm], “Picture” went to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and to No. 21 on the Hot Country Singles chart, thus introducing the Grammy-nominated singer to a wider audience.
Since then, he has released three more albums: Kid Rock, Rock n’ Roll Jesus and Born Free. Each sold over a million copies and debuted in the Billboard 200’s Top 10.
Kid Rock is currently writing music for his next album and will be performing two shows at WinStar Casino in early March.
Here’s Kid Rock performing “Times Like These” at the 2010 American Music Awards. And it’s times like these Jack FM wishes we weren’t on a diet and could have a piece of birthday cake.
