Fans of air guitar are sure to be happy, as Van Halen has released their first new music in over 27 years with original singer David Lee Roth. Though touring with the band for a number of years, “Tattoo” marks the first music released with Roth since 1984.

Today Last.fm Trends looks at scrobbles for the band, to see if fans are still with them.

The graph above (click to enlarge) shows weekly scrobbles for Van Halen over the past year, with a very recent uptick to over 70,000 plays per week. With a fairly constant listening trend, it’s unclear if “Tattoo” will make a huge impact – although listeners are already deep in discussion.

Fans have stayed with the band, but it’s the Roth era that they love best, with the top five all hailing from ’77-’84. Of course it’s cross-genre smash “Jump” that sits atop their charts, counting 1,890,950 scrobbles from 438,270 listeners. Keep an eye on their page to see how “Tattoo” makes its mark.
