In case you haven’t noticed, it’s the holiday season!!

And as an early present, Jack FM is making [lastfm link_type=""]Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers[/lastfm]‘ “Christmas All Over Again” our Song of the Day!!

Hey, at least it’s not fruitcake.

As both a frontman and soloist, Tom Petty has sold over 60 million albums worldwide.  In 1979, he and his band, The Heartbreakers, became household names with the release of Damn the Torpedoes.  Multi-platinum sellers Hard Promises, Southern Accents and Into the Great Wide Open followed, as did Petty’s own successful solo efforts, Full Moon Fever and Wildflowers.

For three decades, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer from Florida was a staple on the rock and pop charts, scoring No. 1 hits with singles like “You Got Lucky,” “Runnin’ Down a Dream,” “Free Fallin’” and “Mary Jane’s Last Dance.”

In 1992, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers wrote and recorded “Christmas All Over Again” for the second A Very Special Christmas album, a series of compilations whose sales benefit the Special Olympics.  The song was also featured in the holiday films Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Four Christmases.

As for their plans in 2012, Petty recently announced he and his fellow Heartbreakers will be hitting the road next summer for a North American and European tour.  A new album is also reportedly in the works.

Check out the video for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “The Waiting.”  And yes, Santa, waiting for you IS the hardest part.
