Our friends in L.A. have got killer lineups on both nights of their 22nd Annual Almost Acoustic Christmas. We previously acquainted you with the bands of night 1, and now it’s time to find out about the acts performing the second night.
We’ve gathered a little bit of info about each of the artists playing Sunday, December 11 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in L.A., to help get you more familiar with what to expect.
THE BLACK KEYS
[Gallery] The Black Keys RAGE It Up At… A blues-rock duo from Akron, Ohio, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Black Keys[/lastfm] have been grinding out grimy, sexy guitar-and-drum rock since their inception a decade ago.
Despite their inscrutable, modest natures, The Black Keys have consistently surged under the radar of mainstream popular music until their sixth album, 2010’s Brothers won three Grammy Awards and was nominated for another two. Now The Black Keys are set to release their highly anticipated seventh album, El Camino.
CAGE THE ELEPHANT
[Gallery] Cage The Elephant Performing… Feisty, freewheeling Kentucky-born alternative rock group, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Cage The Elephant[/lastfm], has brought back the fun of rock ‘n roll with lively songs and energy-infused live performances.
Since coming together in 2006, the five-piece has released two albums, 2008’s self-titled and this year’s Thank You, Happy Birthday. The group has topped charts—both national and worldwide—with their hits “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked” and “Shake Me Down.”
DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE
Considered one the quintessential alternative-pop bands that helped spearhead the “indie” band movement, Seattle-spawned [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Death Cab For Cutie[/lastfm] has released seven albums since 1999 boasting such hits as “Soul Meets Body,” “I Will Follow You Into The Dark,” and “I Will Posses You Heart.”
Death Cab For Cutie’s quirky, wry lyrics and dreamy pop sound has made them consistently popular and a Billboard chart-topping band despite not technically being an “indie” band anymore.
FLORENCE + THE MACHINE
[Photo Gallery] ACX 2010 Florence &… Infamously scarlet-haired Florence Welch, the creative mistress behind [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Florence + The Machine[/lastfm], started spinning her web of soulful, baroque pop sounds in South London in 2007.
Since then, Welch has put out two albums–the amazingly popular Lungs in 2009 and the incandescent Ceremonials which was recently released. Welch has been nominated for over fifty-six awards including Britain’s acclaimed Mercury Prize and Best New Artist at the Grammys.
FOSTER THE PEOPLE
[Photo Gallery] Foster The People… From an up-and-coming indie band struggling on the music-saturated streets of Los Angeles to an immensely successful international musical force, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Foster The People[/lastfm] are models for many other small bands looking to reach mainstream success while maintaining their musical integrity and not selling out.
Though less than a year ago, Foster the People played a free residency at a small bar in Los Angeles, they are now playing huge shows like Live on Letterman, Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits. The band has been nominated for six awards and will surely be a contender for Best New Artist at new year’s Grammy Awards.
Quirky, art-drenched Los Angeles-based five-piece [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Grouplove[/lastfm] is considered by music critics and other musicians (like Acoustic Christmas stage-mate Foster The People) as a band to watch for 2012.
The band met at an art residency in Crete and from there sweet music was made–a sound strong enough to get them tour dates with other Acoustic Christmas stage-mate Florence + The Machine.
[Gallery] Jane’s Addiction Perform… Three of the four original members of LA-based [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jane’s Addiction[/lastfm] are still around today, and their latest album The Great Escape Artist proves that they’re still an “Irresistible Force.”
Jane’s was one of the first alternative rock bands to achieve commercial success in the early 90’s, with songs like “Jane Says,” “Just Because,” “Been Caught Stealing” and “Stop!” Their 1990 album Rio de lo Habitual is certified double platinum, 1988’s Nothing’s Shocking reached platinum, and their 2003 album Strays reached Gold.

THE NAKED AND FAMOUS
[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Naked And Famous[/lastfm] is an up-and-coming indie-electronic post-punk group from New Zealand.
While their single “Young Blood” became number one on the New Zealand charts and received winning nods from the New Zealand Music Awards, the band began to permeate the United States music scene by getting their songs placed on popular television shows like Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, and The Secret Circle.
NOEL GALLAGHER’S HIGH FLYING BIRDS
Part of the infamous duo of brothers that made up iconic Britpop band, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Oasis[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Noel Gallagher[/lastfm] is forging his own path as a songwriter with the ’90s alt-rock grit and glamour fused with ’60s psychedelia of his debut solo album, High Flying Birds.
After being released last week, High Flying Birds has received many positive reviews with stand out tracks being songs like “If I Had A Gun,” “The Death Of Me And You,” and “AKA…What A Life!”
