Today is Halloween!!
And to celebrate the spookiest day of the year, Jack FM is making [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ozzy Osbourne[/lastfm]’s “Bark at the Moon” our Song of the Day!!
We also once bit the head off a bat. Tasted just like chicken.
After being fired from the heavy metal band [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Black Sabbath[/lastfm] in April 1979, Ozzy Osbourne made a name for himself as a successful solo artist, selling more than 30 million albums worldwide and scoring numerous Top 10 hits on the rock charts.
In 1980, Ozzy released his debut solo album, Blizzard of Oz. It was a commercial smash, selling six million copies around the globe and peaking at #21 on the Billboard 200. Blizzard of Oz spawned the singles “Mr. Crowley” and “Crazy Train,” which today is a staple on classic rock radio.
Ozzy Osbourne’s success continued in 1981 with Diary of a Madman and again in 1983 with Bark at the Moon. The latter was the first Ozzy album without guitarist [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Randy Rhoads[/lastfm], who had died in a plane crash the year before. Bark at the Moon landed at #19 on the Billboard 200 and sold three million copies in the U.S. The album’s title-track, about a mythical beast who was killed and then resurrected to wreak more havoc, peaked at #12 on the rock charts and is Jack’s Song of the Day.
In 2010, Ozzy Osbourne released his tenth studio album, Scream. It debuted at #4 on the charts, and the lead single “Let Me Hear You Scream” became a Top 10 hit on rock radio, further solidifying Ozzy’s status as the “Godfather of Heavy Metal.”
Check out Ozzy teaming up with Black Sabbath guitarist [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tony Iommi[/lastfm] for a performance of “Paranoid.” And yes, that is [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Phil Collins[/lastfm] on the drums. Who knew Phil was so metal?
