The “American Bad Ass” himself, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kid Rock[/lastfm], has a new single out called “Care,” and Jack FM is making it our Song of the Day.

Because we, too, care.

Just call Kid Rock the king of perseverance.

After nearly ten years of trying to make it in the music business, Kid Rock finally struck it big in 1998 with the release of his fourth studio album, Devil Without a Cause.  With its blend of rap and rock, the album peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 11 million copies, making Kid a household name.  Devil Without a Cause spawned two Top 10 hits on Modern Rock radio: “Bawitdaba” and “Cowboy.”  The album’s ballad, “Only God Knows Why,” crossed over into the pop world, landing at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2000, Kid Rock earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist but lost to [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm].  That same year, he released The History of Rock, a compilation album which featured material from his previous releases, The Polyfuze Method and Early Mornin’ Stoned Pimp.  The album reached #2 on the charts.

Having been influenced by artists such as [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jim Croce[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Johnny Cash[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]David Allan Coe[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bob Seger[/lastfm], Kid Rock decided to change up his style for 2001’s Cocky by adopting more of a southern rock/country sound.  At first, the album struggled commercially.  But all that changed two years later when the single, “Picture,” was released.  The song, a duet with [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Sheryl Crow[/lastfm], fared well on several charts, including country, where it peaked at #17.

Following the ’03 release of the critically-acclaimed but poor-selling Kid Rock, the Michigan native returned to form with 2007’s Rock n Roll Jesus.  The Grammy-nominated album went all the way to #1, becoming Kid’s first album to land in the top spot.  The catchy single, “All Summer Long,” was an international smash as well.  In the States, it peaked at #23 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 and gave Kid Rock his first Top 10 hit on country radio.

In November 2010, Kid released his seventh album, Born Free.  Described as a “straight-up rock and roll” album, Born Free debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 and has since sold over one million copies.  The album’s third single, “Care,” is Jack’s Song of the Day.

Having just wrapped a summer tour with Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock is currently at work on his next album, which should be released sometime next year.
