In the immortal words of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Rebecca Black[/lastfm]:  “It’s Friday!  It’s Friday!  Gotta get down on Friday!”

Did Jack FM really just quote a 13-year old girl?!

It’s safe to say the [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Foo Fighters[/lastfm] know how to rock.

Following the death of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kurt Cobain[/lastfm] in 1994, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Nirvana[/lastfm] drummer [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Dave Grohl[/lastfm] received numerous offers to work with other artists.  But Dave wanted to do what no one expected him to do: write music and sing.

Originally formed as a one-man band, the Foo Fighters released a self-titled debut album in 1995.  Dave Grohl wrote, recorded and played most of the instruments himself.  The album peaked at # 23 on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the Grammys.  The single, “Big Me,” became well-known for its music video, which spoofed the campy Mentos TV commercials.

After a year of touring the world, the Foo Fighters headed back into the studio to begin work on their second album.  The Colour and The Shape came out in May 1997 and was an instant hit.  The album sold over two million copies and reached # 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.  The singles “Monkey Wrench,” “Everlong,” and “My Hero” all landed atop the U.S. rock charts, and the band was once again nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album.

Over the years, the Foo Fighters have continued releasing successful albums and racking up hit singles on multiple charts.  They’ve played to sold-out audiences around the globe and have scored numerous award nominations for their music and videos.

The Foo Fighters are indeed a rock band to be reckoned with.

In the fall of 2010, the Foo Fighters teamed up with producer [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Butch Vig[/lastfm] to begin work on their seventh studio album.  But instead of heading into a studio, the band recorded in Dave Grohl’s garage using only analog equipment.  The result was Wasting Light, and it was released in April 2011 to positive critical acclaim.  Wasting Light sold 235,000 copies in its first week of release, thus debuting in the top spot on the Billboard 200.  It is the band’s first # 1 album in the States.

The album’s second single is “Walk,” and it’s Jack’s Song of the Day.  Dave Grohl says he wrote the verse about “having a trial” after the time he helped his daughter, Violet, learn to walk.  “Walk” has already reached # 4 on the Alternative Songs and Rock Songs charts.

In August, the Foo Fighters will headline Lollapalooza in Chicago’s Grant Park and are set to kick off a North American tour in September.
