Transformers: Dark of the Moon opens in theaters today.
And while Jack FM is bummed Megan Fox isn’t in it, having a rockin’ new song from [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Paramore[/lastfm] on the movie’s soundtrack does cheer us up a bit.
While the rest of their classmates were busy studying for finals and deciding whom to ask to prom, the members of Paramore were living out their musical dreams.
Paramore lead singer [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Haley Williams[/lastfm] was originally signed to Atlantic Records as a solo act, and the plan was to turn her into the next pop superstar. But Haley had other ideas. She wanted to play alternative music and have a band behind her. After some debate, the record label gave in to Haley’s wishes, and Paramore was formed in Franklin, Tennessee in 2004.
The band released its debut album, All We Know Is Falling, in 2005. But the album fell short of expectations, failing to chart on the Billboard 200 chart.
It was back to the drawing board for Paramore. In the summer of ’07, they released Riot!, their second album. This time around, Paramore scored an international slam dunk. Riot! peaked at # 15 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold a million copies in the States alone. The album produced four hit singles, including “Misery Business.” The song went to # 3 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. It was also featured in several video games, and the video itself saw heavy play on MTV.
Even with a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2008, rumors of trouble and turmoil within Paramore began to surface. It was reported that some of the band’s members were upset by the media attention Haley Williams was receiving.
But Paramore put the rumors aside and marched on. Their third album, Brand New Eyes, was released in ’09. Critical response to the album was mostly positive, and it’s Paramore’s highest charting album to date.
After years of touring, it was announced on December 11, 2010 that Paramore would be taking some time off to prepare for a new album. However, a week later came the news that Josh and Zac Farro were leaving the band. Speculation was that the brothers were no longer happy.
Even with the departure of two of its founding members, Paramore has no intention of disbanding, according to Haley Williams. In fact, she just announced that the band will be recording their next album later this year with hopes of releasing it in early 2012.
Amid all the craziness, Paramore did find time to record a new song for the Transformers: Dark of the Moon soundtrack. Their single, “Monster,” is Jack’s Song of the Day and is available at digital outlets. A video for the song is currently being shot.
Here’s a recent clip of Paramore performing “Misery Business.” Jack FM wonders what we would look like with bright orange-red hair.
