[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Cee Lo Green[/lastfm] has a song on the new [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Buddy Holly[/lastfm] tribute album, Rave On Buddy Holly. And Jack FM is making it our Song of the Day.
Plus, we just really love a man who wears feathers and sings with Muppets.
Cee Lo Green is definitely one of a kind.
Cee Lo (real name Thomas DeCarlo Callaway) first got his start in Atlanta as a member of the hip-hop group, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Goodie Mob[/lastfm]. Soon, he left the group to pursue a solo career with Arista Records. But a solo career wasn’t in the stars for Cee Lo at that time. His solo albums undersold, and he was dropped by the label.
Putting his solo career on hold, Cee Lo Green met DJ/producer [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Danger Mouse[/lastfm], and the two formed [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Gnarls Barkley[/lastfm]. In 2006, Gnarls Barkley released their first album, St. Elsewhere, featuring the smash single, “Crazy.” The song reached # 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In 2010, Cee Lo Green took a break from Gnarls Barkley and resurrected his solo career. He released the album, The Lady Killer, and earned 5 Grammy nominations with the album’s first single, “Forget You.”
With success firmly under his belt, Cee Lo was one of 19 artists asked to contribute to a new Buddy Holly tribute album, Rave On Buddy Holly. Cee Lo recorded an updated version of the 1957 Jerry Lieber-Mike Stoller hit, “(You’re So Square) Baby I Don’t Care.” It was a hit for Buddy Holly in 1958 and is Jack’s Song of the Day.
Rave On Buddy Holly is due out in stores June 28th, and Cee Lo Green can currently be seen weekly as a vocal coach on the hit NBC talent show, “The Voice.”
