What had been rumors the last couple of month has now been confirmed; the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Black Eyed Peas[/lastfm] will be the halftime act for Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium.
Fox Sports president David Hill has decided to reach out to the under 40 demographics for the first time since the infamous “wardrobe malfunction” incident involving [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Justin Timberlake[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Janet Jackson[/lastfm] during Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004.
Since then, iconic acts such as [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Paul McCartney[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Prince[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tom Petty[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Who[/lastfm] have entertained the fans at halftime.
Hill vowed to change things up since it’s Fox’s turn to air the big game this year. It was aired on CBS last year.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Hill stated that last year’s halftime performance from The Who that was the last straw, “I’m watching them going, ‘Oh, no, please.’ If I saw [guitarist and singer] Pete Townshend’s belly again I was going to throw up. In his younger days it might have been rippling muscle but now it’s like mine, rippling fat.”
That description was a little graphic, but I’m sure there were plenty that shared the same sentiment.
Super Bowl XLV will air on February 6th on FOX and of course will be right here in our backyard at Cowboys Stadium.
Here are some memorable halftime acts throughout the years. Nipple-free of course. Enjoy…
