[lastfm]Green Day[/lastfm] frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, filled in admirably for his own Broadway show American Idiot Tuesday night. Armstrong is playing the role of St. Jimmy this week, while the actor who plays that part is on a short leave.
Rollingstone.com reports that Armstrong fit right in with the cast, and as well he should… the show is based off of the 2004 Green Day album of the same name. As well he should… he was performing his own songs including “Homecoming” and “Know Your Enemy”.
Armstrong’s character (St. Jimmy), is an evil influence on the punky protagonist Jesus of Suburbia (played by John Gallagher Jr.). Up till the time of his performance, Armstrong spent his time relentlessly promoting the show which debuted in April.
Those in audience said he looked like a natural up on stage. One fan stated, “It turns out he’s a really good actor.”
Do we see a career change in the future for Mr. Armstrong? Maybe… as long as he continues to keep his day job.
He’s set to perform the rest of the week, up until Sunday. Since many of us in this neck of woods won’t be heading to NYC anytime soon we’ll just have make due w/ a few videos from the American Idiot album. You’re welcome.
